Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams are currently working in Caracas and La Guaira, Venezuela, where 7.2- and 7.5-magnitude earthquakes struck in rapid succession on June 24. Thousands of people are reported to have died and tens of thousands more have been injured or displaced.
Right now, MSF teams continue to prepare and distribute supplies to hospitals to help treat thousands of patients. We have also launched a mobile clinic in Naiguatá, La Guaira, one of the most affected areas, to meet significant humanitarian needs.
MSF teams are able to act quickly thanks to the generous support of our donors. In the first hours following the disaster, MSF was one of the only international aid organizations on the ground. This rapid response allowed us to help fill critical supply gaps when hospitals had exhausted their emergency stocks.
